Family Days Out

For the kids there are lots of great places to visit. Try Newquay aquarium or the seal sanctuary, a rescue centre for seals at Gweek.

Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary in Hayle is home to over 400 species of birds, a fun farm and miniature railway. In 2005 the new Jungle Barn indoor play centre was opened, so that there is plenty of active fun for children even if the weather is cold and wet!

For a rainy day there is Flambards, a great theme park for all the family, with undercover exhibitions including a Victorian Village, Britain in The Blitz and Memory Lane and of course not forgetting all the thrilling rides and award-winning gardens!

At Lands End, the most westerly point in mainland Britain, besides the stunning scenery there are five superb attractions. You can have your family's picture taken below the First and Last Post, explore the attractions such as the Relentless Sea or the Last Labyrinth, with its stunning multimedia displays. Younger children will love the Land of Greeb Animal Farm and the new Doctor Who exhibition.

Falmouth's National Maritime museum opened in 2002 and reflects the town's maritime heritage with an eye-catching modern building which houses a mesmerising series of exhibits of all things boating, from galleries, to audiovisual displays all overlooking the harbour.

The Monkey Sanctuary, situated near Looe, one of Cornwall most delightful Days Out. Home to a colony of woolly monkeys living in an extensive territory. See the monkeys climb and forage in mature trees within their new outdoor enclosure, in a way rarely seen in captivity.

The Camel Trail is a cycle path much of which follows the line of a disused railway. Largely level, and off road, so good for wheelchairs too, the Camel Trail runs along the beautiful Camel Estuary from Padstow the 6 miles to Wadebridge, and on , for the more adventurous, another 8 miles to Bodmin. There are several bike hire shops in Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin with mountain bikes, adult tourers, childs trailer bikes and tandems. Check out www.bikesmart.eu which tells you all about the trail and offers bike hire.

There is another similar disused railway line used as a bike trail that runs from Devoran on the Fal estuary via Bissoe to Portreath, with bike hire at Bissoe.

But perhaps if you're not feeling so energetic you'd rather take a steam train journey on the Bodmin and Wenford railway which runs through 6 1/2 miles of Cornish countryside.

Or visit the Earth Station at Goonhilly where you can take a guided tour of the command centre and view the interactive displays whilst learning about the satellite dishes and visit Future World and meet the latest in robot technology.
